Egg dishes are very popular in Hungary, especially for breakfast. We prepare eggs in various forms including scrambled eggs, fried eggs, soft- or hard boiled eggs and even as an omelette. What is special is what we use as ingredients or toppings. Typical toppings for the Hungarian scrambled eggs are onion, Hungarian sausage called kolbász and paprika. At Cafe Brunch you can order this delicious Hungarian speciality also as an omelette. In this case we also add smoked cheese to the omelette.

Hungarian toast, eggy bread - Bundáskenyér

Bundáskenyér is another Hungarian breakfast speciality that is very popular. It is like a French toast, but a savoury dish. At Cafe Brunch we use a delicious sourdough bread, that we freshly bake in our own bakery. This type of bread is especially good for the Hungarian toast as it can absorb the eggs well, but it doesn't get too soggy. The eggy bread is then fried and served with garlic sour-cream and a side salad. You can order extra bacon or even avocado with this dish, which go very well with this Hungarian dish.

Hungary is famous for its desserts and cakes. You can find the following Hungarian cakes at Cafe Brunch which are all really delicious:

  • Rákóczi túrós: it is a sweet cottage cheese cream filled into a pastry base with apricot jam and an egg white foam on the top. This is one of my favourites.

  • Eszterházy szelet: it is a kind of sponge cake, but the batter is made with egg white and ground walnuts and no flour, so it is gluten free. The cream contains butter and more ground walnuts.

  • Dobos torta: is probably the best know Hungarian dessert. It is a layered sponge cake with a rich chocolate filling and a hard caramel top which is the favourite of all Hungarian children.

If you would like to taste any of the above Hungarian specialities, come to one of our Cafe Brunch Budapest restaurants.
